March 2026 Chapter Newsletter
President's Report
Dear CPCU Members and Friends,
National Ethics Awareness Month is observed every March to promote ethical practices and encourage reflection on personal and professional integrity. This is a timely reminder of the role ethical judgment and professional conduct play in our industry and in the trust the public places in insurance professionals. As members of the CPCU community, we uphold a code of professionalism that emphasizes integrity, competence, and public responsibility. This month provides an opportunity to reflect, learn, and demonstrate those principles in action.
Our chapter will be hosting an in-person Ethics Awareness event this year — something new we're calling Taco Table Talks. This evening event will combine great food with meaningful discussion, exploring critical issues facing our industry. I will be facilitating alongside Director Keline Bornelus. Our focus will be on true ethical dilemmas — the "Right vs. Right" questions that rarely have an obvious answer. Which matters more in a given situation: the needs of the individual or the needs of the community? Short-term results or long-term consequences? Where do justice and mercy come into play?
You will also want to check out the Society's webinar, Ethics Under Pressure: Navigating Uncertainty, led by Rita Williams-Bogar, Lori Hurkin, and Michael A. Lawrence. In this session, members of the Ethics Committee examine real-world insurance scenarios and explore how pressure influences judgment, communication, and accountability.
Ethics is at the heart of the CPCU Society's mission and critical to our roles as insurance professionals. I hope you will join us for one or both of these events.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Gieseking President,
CPCU Society Atlanta Chapter

Meet Ki-Jana Curtis
- How did you get started in the insurance industry?
I was a student‑athlete weighing the decision to return for a sixth year of eligibility or start building my career. A relative working in the industry took the time to walk me through the many avenues within insurance, and that exposure opened my eyes. I found a field where my competitive drive and curiosity could thrive—and I’ve been committed to it ever since.
- What is your current role?
I am a commercial property claims examiner.
- What does your work entail?
I oversee the adjustment of commercial property claims involving school systems, municipalities, stadiums, apartments, and other high‑value structures.
- Why did you decide to pursue your CPCU designation?
I chose to pursue my CPCU designation to broaden my professional network and further develop my skills as both an insurance professional and a leader.
- How have you been involved with the CPCU society and the Atlanta chapter?
Since joining, I’ve served as the Membership Chair for the Atlanta Chapter, and I currently serve as a Director and Social Event Co-Chair.

I enjoy traveling and spending quality time with my family.
Recent Gatherings

Our first social event of the year was a wonderful success. DBI Construction Consultants hosted us at their Buckhead office, where members enjoyed sandwiches, drinks, and plenty of chocolate while catching up with friends old and new — all with a lovely view of the Buckhead skyline. Special thanks to Social Events Co‑Chairs Ki‑Jana Curtis and Andria Jones for organizing such a delightful evening.
Giving Back to the Community

We had a wonderful time volunteering at the Solidarity Sandy Springs food pantry. With an efficient setup and a welcoming atmosphere, they meet a vital community need: addressing hunger. With so much food to distribute, volunteers are essential! Our team helped shoppers select dry goods as they moved through the line, and patrons were respectful throughout. Toni keeps everything running smoothly and the process was well organized. We look forward to partnering with Solidarity again!

CPCU Outreach

Board members represented the Chapter at the 2025 Gamma Iota Sigma career fair in Buckhead. The two-day event was held at Buckhead as a place for students from all around the Southeast to connect and learn from industry professionals.
Diversity & Inclusion Spotlight

Celebrating March’s Heritage & Awareness Months
National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, established in 1987, invites us to increase awareness and support for individuals with developmental disabilities. By fostering accessibility, respect, and opportunities for all abilities, we strengthen our industry and society, embracing the value of diverse perspectives and talents.
National Irish American Heritage Month, officially recognized in 1991, honors the rich cultural contributions and enduring legacy of Irish Americans. Their resilience, innovation, and dedication have shaped communities across the nation and continue to inspire us to appreciate the diverse roots that enrich our shared experience.
Women’s History Month, which began as a week-long celebration in 1981 and was expanded to a month in 1987, celebrates the remarkable achievements and leadership of women throughout history and today. Recognizing the vital role women play in the insurance profession encourages us to continue advancing gender equity and empowering women at every level.
At CPCU, we remain dedicated to cultivating a culture where every individual feels seen, heard, and valued. By engaging with these important observances, we deepen our understanding and strengthen our collective commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We encourage all members to participate in this month’s events, educational resources, and conversations that promote awareness and allyship. Together, we can foster a workplace—and industry—that truly embraces the strengths of all people.
GA General Session

For your awareness we wanted to highlight a few bills of importance from this year's Legislative Session. Crossover Day is March 6th. This is the deadline that a bill must pass out of its originating chamber (House or Senate) to be considered by the other chamber and marks the halfway point to the Session.
To look up any of the bills referenced, go to the GA Legislation website and enter the bill's number.
